    H.S. roundup: Valley/Old Lyme stays unbeaten in football

    Durham — The Valley Regional/Old Lyme football team remained unbeaten with a 13-0 win over Coginchaug/Hale-Ray/East Hampton in a Pequot Conference Sassacus Division game on Saturday.

    Valley opened the scoring on its first drive of the second half when Jason O'Brien caught a 1-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Santos and Brian Funk added the extra point for a 7-0 lead. And with four minutes left in the third quarter Jae'len Arnum scored on a 6-yard run to make it 13-0. The extra point failed. The score was set up by a 48-yard pass from Santos to Arnum.

    The defense, led by end Ben Conrad's 1.5 sacks, shut down Coginchaug (1-2, 0-2). Santos was 9-for-12 for 130 yards passing, O'Brien caught five passes for 60 yards and Arnum had two catches for 61 yards for Valley/Old Lyme (3-0, 2-0).

    Girls' soccer

    • Ledyard beat St. Bernard 4-0. Kady Medas, Lexi LaPerle, Kate English and Abby Millbach scored for Ledyard (2-3) and teammates Nuriyah Richardson and Abby DiRico had assists. St. Bernard is also 2-3.

    • Amelia Caron scored midway through the second half as Stonington beat Montville 1-0 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III game. Stonington is 4-1-1, 3-0 and Montville is 3-2, 2-1.

    • Old Lyme and Portland played to a 2-2 tie in a Shoreline Conference game. Mya Johnson and Caroline Wallace had goals, Danielle McCarthy had an assist and Sam Gray made nine saves for Old Lyme (2-1-1, 1-1-1).

    • Notre Dame of Fairfield got out to a 2-0 lead and held on to beat East Lyme 3-2. Phoebe Provencher and Meredith Healy scored goals, Caitlin O'Dea had an assist and Avery Owen made 18 saves for East Lyme (1-4-1). 

    • New London lost to Griswold in an ECC Division III game, 4-2. Cassandra Roman and Bria Fielding scored goals and Emilia Skrabacz had an assist for New London (2-4, 0-3).

    • Killingly beat Waterford in an ECC Division II game, 4-1. Ciana Chiappone scored for Waterford (2-3, 0-2) in the first half to tie the game at 1-1.

    • Lyman Memorial edged Wheeler 1-0 in an ECC Division IV match. Goalie Addie Hauptmann made 13 saves for the Lions (0-6, 0-4).

    Field hockey

    • Fitch/Ledyard lost to Westbrook in a nonleague game, 1-0. Hailie Kesterson made six saves for Fitch/Ledyard (2-3).

    • NFA lost to Immaculate in a nonleague game, 9-0. Luci Libis and Madysen Jones combined for six saves for NFA (0-6).

    Boys' cross country

    • Host Williams School took four of the top five spots in a tri-meet win over Fishers Island and Watkinson with a team total of 19. Hartmut Doerwaldt won the race in 20:03, Philip Knowlton was second (20:18), Hunter Dolphin was fourth (22:04) and Colin Ladd was fifth (23:30).

    • Fitch finished 14th out of 47 teams at the Manchester Invitational in New Hampshire. Ian Poe led Fitch with a 44th-place finish (17:44) and Ryan Poe was 65th (18:11).

    Girls' cross country

    • Host Williams won a tri-meet against Fishers Island and Watkinson with a team total of 15, taking the top four spots. Mary Madaus of Williams won the race in a time of 25:22 followed by teammates Farrah Scott (25:54), Grace Cassineri (26:22) and Ella Aiden-Atherton (27:21).
