DOT announces alternating one-way traffic on Route 1 over Pattagansett River in East Lyme

East Lyme — The state Department of Transportation has announced that it will alternate one-way traffic, using temporary signalization, on Route 1 over the Pattagansett River in town, beginning on or about Tuesday.

The project consists of a bridge structure replacement, drainage improvements, and roadway reconstruction, according to DOT's news release. Alternating one-way traffic will allow one lane on the bridge to remain open during the work.

DOT asks motorists to drive cautiously and leave a safe traveling distance between their vehicle and the vehicle ahead of them.

The contract was awarded to D & V Morin Construction Co. for $1,991,519 on June 24, 2016 and is scheduled to be completed Nov. 14, according to DOT.

DOT has released the following information on lane closures. Uniformed trafficpersons or town police may control traffic at times. The allowable times are:

    • 6 p.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday.

    • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    • 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday.

    • 6 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday.

    • 6 p.m. Saturday through 10 a.m. Sunday.

Temporary concrete barriers and traffic devices will be used during stage construction.
