Pawcatuck, Westerly water boil advisory lifted

Westerly — The public works department gave notice Friday afternoon that residents no longer need to boil their water before using and that no bacteria were found in town's water.

The Westerly Water Department had issued a water boil advisory on Wednesday for residents in Pawcatuck and Westerly, after E. coli was detected in a sample from the town's Bradford 2 well on Tuesday.

The well was taken offline and the Miox disinfection system was worked throughout the water system, according to the advisory from the town on Friday. All tests read on Friday were negative for bacteria.

The Westerly Water Department notified the Rhode Island Department of Health Center for Drinking Water Quality that no bacteria were found in the most recent water testing.

Questions or concerns should be directed to Paul Corina, director of public works, at (401) 348-2561.
