Community read-aloud of "Letter from Birmingham Jail" to be held Monday in East Lyme

East Lyme — A community read-aloud of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from Birmingham Jail" will be held here Monday evening.

The read-aloud will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, at the East Lyme Senior Center, 37 Society Road, Niantic.

About 18 people, including middle and high school students, will participate in reading the letter during the event held in honor of Black History Month.

The Niantic Rotary Club, Niantic and Advanced Toastmasters and East Lyme Public Library are presenting the event.

“My hope is that it brings a little bit of understanding and a little lesson in history and just the power of love and words,” said Eva Menon, an event organizer.
