Waterford — Jeff Sammataro was driving Tuesday northbound on Great Neck, on his way to work, when he heard a bang and stopped to see what he'd struck. He found an owl behind the grille of his truck motionless.

By the time Waterford police officer Cindy Munoz arrived the owl had started moving. Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control Officer Robert Yuchniuk broke away enough of the grille to remove the owl. The owl was taken to Waterford Country School for care.
