Downtown Mystic to be purple to mark Alzheimer's awareness month

Mystic — To mark Alzheimer's Awareness month, several initiatives are being planned in downtown Mystic to raise awareness of the disease and efforts to combat it.

On Monday at noon, the Connecticut chapter of the Alzheimer's Association will dress the John J. Kelley statue in purple and place a ribbon on the drawbridge and on the anchor by the S & P Oyster House.

Also being dressed in purple this month will be the Whale's Tail in New London, the chihuly statue at the Mohegan Sun, the Colchester town green, signage at Bradley International Airport and a purple line down Main Street in Ansonia, among others.

The Alzheimer's Association's Connecticut chapter can be reached at its 24-7 Helpline at 1-800-272-3900 or at alz.org/ct.
