Old Lyme — Old Lyme converted 11 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off Portland, 64-56, in a Shoreline Conference boys' basketball game on Thursday night.

The Wildcats (6-3, 6-2) took a comfortable 45-29 lead into the final eight minutes before the Highlanders chipped away, getting as close as five. But Brady Sheffield went 4-for-4 from the and three others went 2-for-2 as Old Lyme held on in what coach Kirk Kaczor called "probabliy our most complete effort this year."

Aedan Using led the Wildcats' balanced offense with 17 points and nine rebounds while Ray Doll added 14, Quinn Roman 11 and Sheffield and Owen Frederiks each had nine.

Girls' basketball

• Megan Bauman made three of her six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as East Lyme pulled away for a 50-34 win over Ledyard in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I game. East Lyme led 30-27 after three quarters and, after Ledyard made a basket to cut the lead to a point, outscored the Colonels 20-5 the rest of the way. Bauman finished with 21 points and Nadia Tarhini scored 11 for East Lyme (8-3, 2-1). Julia Lavin scored 14 for Ledyard (4-5, 0-3).

• Putnam beat Grasso Tech 66-7 in a nonleague game. Molly McKeon had 14 points and Alex Hutchins scored 12 for Putnam (9-1). Morgan McNeil and Samarie Delgado had three points each for Grasso (0-8) and Delgado blocked two shots.

Women's basketball

• WPI stretched its winning streak to five with a 59-46 win over Coast Guard Academy England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Ama Biney led WPI (11-3, 4-1) with 27 points. Gillian Gerton had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Coast Guard (6-6, 3-3).

• Elms College snapped a five-game losing streak with a 71-45 win over Mitchell College in the New England Collegiate Conference. Dejia Santana had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the Mariners (4-9, 3-2) while Camille Staggers added nine points.

Men's swimming

• Taylor Rowe won a pair of events as Coast Guard rolled to a 152-72 win over Babson at Wellesley. Rowe captured the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.57) and 1,000 free (9:56.76) for the Bears (4-1), who also picked up individual wins from Josh Roh in the 200 free (1:47.47), Joe Rodriguez in 50 free (21.40), Chasse Sodemann in the 200 IM (2:03.24), Tyler Dominick in the 100 free (48.91), Patrick Jackson in the 200 backstroke (1:58.97), Drew Cheneler in the 1-meter diving (271.20 points) and Will French in the 3-meter diving (262.00).

Women's swimming

• Freshmen Emily Benson and Felicia Lombardi each won two events as Coast Guard to wins over both host Wellesley (147-94) and Babson (171-55). Benson won the 500 freestyle (5:23.11) and 1,000 free (11:09.24) for the Bears (3-4), while Lombardi won the 50 free (25.60) and the 100 free (57.45). Also for Coast Guard, Brooke Harkrader won the 200 free (2:10.10), Julianne Rogers the 200 breaststroke (2:39.60), Samantha  Kenis the 200 IM (2:21.34), Cece Marzinsky the 200 butterfly (2:14.09) and Jane Turner the 200 backstroke (2:22.34). Kenis, Sarah Passilla, Marzinsky and Kristen Young won with 4x400 medley relay in 4:08.95.
