    Local roundup: Ostrowski has another record-setting night for East Lyme boys in win over Fitch

    East Lyme — Dev Ostrowski of East Lyme High School scored a school-record 47 points, but the top-seeded Vikings needed a second-half rally to beat No. 8 Fitch 75-70 in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I boys' basketball tournament Thursday.

    Fitch led 25-18 after one quarter and 42-37 at halftime before East Lyme outscored the Falcons 22-13 in the third quarter to take a 59-55 lead into the fourth.

    East Lyme plays the winner of Friday's NFA-Ledyard game in Saturday semifinals at Waterford at 4:30 p.m.

    Ostrowski's 47 tops the 43 he got earlier this season, which also set a school record. Luke Leonard added 10 points for East Lyme (18-3).

    Kiev Lucas scored 22, Ajia Brown had 16 points, Justice Farris scored 15 and D.J. Beaudet  had 13 points for Fitch, which ended the season at 3-18.

    In other games:

    • Mikey Buscetto scored 24 points with 10 assists and three steals as No. 2 Waterford beat No. 7 Bacon Academy 85-46 in the Division I quarterfinals. Buscetto, a senior, eclipsed the 1,300-point total with the 24 and stands at 1,309. Liam Spellman had 13 points and eight rebounds, JJ Brennan scored 10 and Walker Sutman had six rebounds for Waterford (19-2), which hosts No. 3 New London in Saturday's semifinals at 6:30 p.m.

    • Joseph Beltran scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half as No. 1 St. Bernard rallied for a 73-51 win over No. 9 Montville in the ECC Division II quarterfinals. The Saints, the defending Div. II champions, play No. 5 Lyman Memorial in Saturday's semifinals at Waterford at 2 p.m. Lyman led 17-12 after one quarter and 28-25 at halftime before the Saints took over. Hunter Baillargeon had 15 points and Max Lee scored 11 for the Saints (19-2). Zach Southard scored 20 for Montville, which finished the season 4-18.

    • The ECC Division I quarterfinal between NFA and Ledyard was postponed to 6 p.m. Friday at NFA.

    Women's swimming

    • Coast Guard's 800 freestyle relay team of freshman Sarah Passilla, junior Kristen Young, freshman Emily Benson and junior Christine McCulla won the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship with a school-record time of 7 minutes, 34.41 seconds to highlight the opening night of the league meet. The time was an NCAA "B" cut time and puts them in the Top 12 for a possible spot at the NCAA Division III Championship. The Bears sit in second place with 60 points, trailing MIT (64) after the first day.

    Men's swimming

    • Coast Guard is in third place after the first day of the NEWMAC Championship. MIT leads with 125 points, followed by Springfield with 96 points and Coast Guard with 90. The Bears' 800 free relay team of senior Ross Garrett, freshman Josh Roh, sophomore Maximilian McCall and freshman John Feller placed third with a time of 6:53.45. Freshman Marshall Seguin placed sixth on the 1-meter diving board with 421.30 points in the other event on opening night.

    Men's basketball

    • Mitchell College was ousted from the New England Collegiate Conference tournament, losing to No. 2 Becker 78-73 in the semifinals. Domenico Santiago had 27 points and 19 rebounds, Steffen Brunson had 19 points and five assists and Hasani Williams scored 11 for No. 3 Mitchell, which ends its season at 14-13.

    Men's hockey

    • UConn ended its regular season with a 3-2 loss to Massachusetts in a Hockey East game. The Huskies tied the game at 2-2 on a goal by Jesse Schwartz with 18:40 left in the third period but UMass's Niko Hildenbrand scored 12 seconds later and in held up. Spencer Naas had a goal and an assist, Tanner Creel made 19 saves and Brian Rigali and David Drake had assists for UConn (15-17-2, 11-12-1).     

    H.S. hockey

    • Will Cannella scored twice and Kyle Jacobson had a goal and three assists as the Eastern Connecticut Eagles won their sixth straight, beating Newington 5-3 on Wednesday night. Ryan Huta had a goal and an assist, Rylin Fowler made 22 saves, Evan Tower had two assists, Quenten Dean scored and Kyle Marino and Kevin Close had assists for the Eagles (13-2-2).
