Aaron Bold had a career-high 59 saves as the New England Black Wolves picked

up their third consecutive win by defeating the Rochester Knighthawks 11-6 in a National Lacrosse League game on Saturday night at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y.

Johnny Powless led the Black Wolves (9-8) with four points (one goal, three assists) while John LaFontaine had a career-high two goals to go along with one assist for New England. For the first time in 35 games, Kevin Crowley failed to score for the Black Wolves, but did dish out three assists.

With the win, New England swept the season series with Rochester (9-8). In a tight East Division, the Black Wolves can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Georgia next week.

The Knighthawks got the scoring starting 2:29 into the game on a goal by Scott Campbell, and Austin Shanks scored just over a minute later to put Rochester up 2-0. New England cut it to 2-1 on a power play goal by Kyle Buchanan with 7.6 seconds left to close out the first quarter.

Stephan Leblanc tied it up for New England 5:37 into the second, and after a Kyle Jackson goal with 9:24 left put the Knighthawks back up, Callum Crawford and LaFontaine each picked up a goal in the closing six minutes to give the Black Wolves the 4-3 lead at halftime.

Shanks picked up his second of the night on the power play 1:53 into the third, but Dylan Evans picked up his first goal as a member of the Black Wolves 37 seconds later to put New England back up by one goal. Powless increased the advantage to 6-4 just over a minute later. Adam Bomberry scored a shorthanded goal in transition with 8:07 left to increase the New England lead to 7-4.

Rochester cut the advantage down to two just 1:20 later on a goal by Eric Fannell, but LaFontaine picked up his second of the night, shorthanded, with 2:34 left in the quarter to put the Black Wolves up 8-5 after three.

Leblanc got the scoring started for New England 10:34 into the fourth, picking up his second of the night to give the Black Wolves a 9-5 lead. Joe Resetarits scored with 3:27 remaining to cut the lead to three. However, Brett Manney scored an empty net goal with 1:50 left to play and Colton Watkinson followed him with another empty netter 24 seconds later to put the Black Wolves up 11-6.

New England will close out the regular season on Sunday, April 29 against the Swarm. Game time at Mohegan Sun Arena is set for 5 p.m.
