    Local roundup: Cross, Dillon help Conn women's hockey win 1st

    Amherst, Mass. — Erin Dillon's goal at 7:40 of the second period put the Connecticut College women's hockey team up two, and the Camels hung on to beat Amherst, 2-1, on Saturday for their first win of the season.

    Jordan Cross gave Conn (1-0-1, 1-0-1 New England Small College Athletic Conference) a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on an assist from Kyla Floresca. Cross then assisted on Dillon's goal.

    Carly Demora stopped 24 of 25 shots for the Camels.

    Women's basketball

    • Emma Puddington scored 11 points off the bench to lead Coast Guard in an 85-67 loss to host UMass-Dartmouth at the Lafrance Hospitality Classic. Micaela Martinelli, Kyra Hartman (four steals) and Julia Guerrero all scored nine points for the Bears (1-2), and Brenna Farrington grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

    • Amina Wiley's 23 points paced Mitchell College in an 84-72 loss to Roger Williams at the Trinity College Tip-Off Tournament. Wiley also grabbed 16 rebounds as the Mariners (1-1) battled back from a 10-point halftime deficit to trail by two after three quarters, but could not gain the upper hand. Dejia Santana (13 points, eight rebounds), Le'Sandra Turner (11 points, five assists) and Kelsey Hernandez (10 points) also contributed for Mitchell.

    Men's Basketball

    • East Lyme's J.R. Gandenberger scored a career-high 11 points in Avery Point's 96-69 loss to Quincy Community College. Elijah Malbeouf-Boyd led the Pointers (1-5) with 21 points, and Norwich's Alec Gomes added 13 points.

    • Domenico Santiago recorded a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds, but Mitchell College lost to host UMass-Dartmouth, 89-72, in the championship game of the Lafrance Hospitality Tournament. Matt Finke added 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Mariners (1-1).

    • Wayne Bristol Jr. scored 12 points off the bench in St. Thomas More's 91-70 loss to Massanutten Military. Jair Currie also had 12 points with three assists for the Chancellors, while Michael Lynott (10 points) and Joel Soriano (nine rebounds) also contributed.

    • David Labossiere scored a team-best 19 points and teammate Dan Draffan added 18 points and 14 rebounds, but Conn College fell to Wentworth, 67-64, at the Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Classic.

    • Nolan Benson led four players in double figures with 24 points and also collected seven rebounds to help Coast Guard beat Medgar Evers, 94-75, at the Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Tournament. Sean Graytok added 14 points and three steals for the Bears (3-0), and Justin Kane (eight rebounds) and Yonas Gordon each scored 10 points.

    Men's ice hockey

    • Avery Gobbo stopped 31 shots for Conn College in a 4-0 home loss to Trinity. The Camels (0-2, 0-2 NESCAC) trailed, 1-0, after the first period and 3-0 after the second.

    • Despite outshooting UMass-Lowell by five and having six power play opportunities, UConn lost to the Night Hawks, 3-0. Tomas Vomacka gave up all three goals for the Huskies (5-6-1, 2-5-1 Hockey East), who took 28 shots to UMass-Lowell's 23. The Night Hawks are 6-5-1, 3-3-1.
