NRC finds two violations of 'very low' safety significance at Millstone
Waterford — The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has notified Millstone Power Station of two findings of “very low” safety significance during a safety and compliance inspection completed Sept. 30.
A third violation of very low safety significance was reported to the NRC by Millstone staff.
All three findings were entered into the NRC’s corrective action program and are being treated as “non-cited violations,” the NRC said in a notice Thursday.
In the first violation, the NRC said Millstone owner Dominion Resources did not implement an in-house testing program on an air conditioning booster pump at the nuclear power plant in accordance with the standards of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
In the second violation, the NRC inspectors found that Dominion “did not provide adequate procedural direction or training to the operators for the control of the emergency core cooling systems” during a hypothetical event.
The violation identified by Dominion pertained to an “inadequate valve weak link analysis.”
Ken Holt, spokesman for Millstone, said the company is "addressing all of the issues that were identified."
"They are being investigated and actions will be developed to ensure that these events don't happen again," he said.
