Disparity between home values, household incomes have southeastern Connecticut towns grappling with affordable housing

Local towns are dealing with the issue of affordable housing, including Stonington which recently saw the construction of the $10 million, 43-unit Spruce Meadow, the first phase of an eventual 86-unit, mixed-income housing project.

The Day took a look at the available data to see the distribution and median home values, as well as the distribution of household incomes for southeastern Connecticut.

Below you’ll see a map that shows the median home values and beneath that you can select a town to see the percentage breakdown for home values and income for towns in our part of Connecticut. For instance, you’ll see that in North Stonington almost 50% of homes are valued at over $300,000 while a third of the households have an income of $50,000 or less.
