Old Saybrook police arrest 3 after stolen vehicle crashes into tree

Old Saybrook — Police on Thursday morning arrested three people they said were involved in the burglaries of several cars.

According to police, the trio fled in a stolen vehicle Thursday when police attempted to stop them while investigating the burglarized vehicles.

Police said the person at the wheel drove the car into a tree off Main Street, at which point officers quickly arrested two of the suspects.

The third person fled the scene, but police said they were able to locate the person about 45 minutes later with the help of K-9 Kendo.

Police have not yet released the names of the three people or the charges they face. They said Main Street was closed to traffic between Maple Avenue and East Street. The area was being considered an active crime scene as officers worked to collect evidence from multiple vehicles that may have been burglarized.

Police advise those who think their vehicles may have been burglarized to not enter the vehicle and instead call police at (860) 395-3142.
