New London — Police on Wednesday arrested a man who allegedly drove into several vehicles on state Route 32, including a school bus, and then led officers on a chase.

According to police, 50-year-old Rubin Ramos was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck multiple cars in Waterford and then struck more in New London shortly after 8 a.m. Police said Ramos also drove into an occupied school bus “several times” in New London before fleeing to Groton.

According to police, a witness followed Ramos to state Route 12 in Groton, where police picked up the chase. Ledyard officers and state police joined New London cops in the pursuit, which ended on Route 12 north near Stuart Drive in Preston after police deployed stop sticks.

Police said they took Ramos into custody after “a brief struggle.” A city officer sustained minor injuries from the struggle.

Ramos, of 10 S. Central St., Taftville, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving with a suspended license, engaging police in pursuit, misuse of plates, interfering with an officer, two counts of reckless endangerment and four counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Because Ramos is on parole, police said he will be remanded to state Department of Correction custody.

Records show Ramos in 2007 was convicted of first-degree burglary and first-degree kidnapping. He was sentenced to 12 years in jail with special parole for eight years.
