Police launch campaigns to combat drunken driving

The Groton Town Police Department is among the state and local agencies that will be ramping up enforcement over the coming weeks in an effort to combat impaired driving.

According to a news release, Groton’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign was set to begin Tuesday and last through Jan. 2, 2018.

In addition to watching for intoxicated drivers, police also will be pulling over those who are speeding, not wearing their seat belts and/or using their cellphones.

State troopers stationed at Troop E in Montville also are targeting DUI offenses this week. Their campaign will consist of boosted patrols along Interstate 95, Interstate 395, state Route 164 and state Route 2.

Their effort, slated to start Wednesday and last through Sunday, also will focus on seat belt use and distracted driving.
