Meriden man charged after police chase

A 22-year-old Meriden man faces multiple charges after leading police on a chase that ended with him crashing into a tree in Lebanon.

Justin Eccleston, of 213 Mildred Road, was charged Saturday with reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, use of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to sell and second-degree reckless endangerment, according to a state police department news release.

At 4:45 a.m., Mohegan Tribal Police called state police in Montville after trying to stop a suspect while investigating an assault on tribal property. Tribal police said a white man in a dark-colored SUV tried to run over a tribal police officer and then fled the casino, the news release said.

A chase followed, with the SUV reaching speeds of over 100 mph on Route 2, the release said. The SUV ultimately traveled into Lebanon, where the driver struck a tree near the intersection of Waterman Road and Route 87.

Eccleston was taken to a hospital for treatment of possible injuries, then transported to the state police barracks in Montville.
