Groton — City police are investigating an altercation on Branford Avenue early Sunday morning that left one victim with a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound.

According to police, officers arrived at a parking lot on Branford Avenue around 12:30 a.m. after receiving multiple reports of shots being fired. They determined an altercation had taken place in the parking lot and everyone involved had left before police arrived.

The victim was located at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

Officers from the City of Groton secured the scene, interviewed witnesses and identified suspects. Groton Town and New York City police assisted with the follow-up investigation. 

City police also credited Spanish-speaking officers from its own department and New London with assisting with the investigation.
