Norwich police charge man in connection with DWI crash

Norwich -- Police charged a Colchester man with driving under the influence and numerous other offenses Saturday night after they say his pickup truck swerved into oncoming traffic, striking a car and seriously injuring a mother and her two children.

Police said that Carlos Davila, 32, of 5 Cobble Way, ran from the scene of the crash but was apprehended shortly after with the help of a state police K9 team.

He was also charged with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, interfering with a police officer, evading responsibility, following too closely, failure to drive right, driving without a license and reckless driving.

Police said the crash occurred about 7:15 p.m. in the area of 281 Hamilton Ave.

A 3-year-old child was transported to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center and the 6-year-old was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment.

Police said that before the crash, Davila was involved in a road rage incident on Hamilton Avenue with a brown, early to middle 2000s Acura TL last seen headed north on the street. Anyone with information about the crash or the Acura is asked to contact Officer Keven McNeill at (860) 886-5561 or kmcneill@cityofnorwich.org or by calling the department’s anonymous tip line at (860) 886-5561, Ext. 4.
