Montville — State police have charged an Oakdale man with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs following a crash Thursday afternoon.

According to the police report, Kevin Costello, 30, of 874 Raymond Hill Road, was traveling westbound on Chesterfield Road in the S-curves west of Glendale Road while another car was traveling eastbound. Costello's car crossed over the double yellow line and struck head on with the other vehicle. The accident occurred around 1:07 p.m.

The driver of the other car, 46-year-old Ryan L. Mcnichol, also of Oakdale, was taken by Chesterfield Ambulance to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the report.

Police said Costello, who also had a suspected minor injury, was taken into custody after being tested using the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Both cars were significantly damaged and Chesterfield Road was closed for more than two hours, according to the report.
