Stan Van Gundy sees such a difference in his Detroit Pistons that he considered picking Andre Drummond to shoot a technical foul shot.

He's not quite ready for that, but he's already convinced this team has what last season's lacked.

"I think that anybody watching us can see a difference from what they had seen a year ago in terms of the spirit and the energy and the fight," Van Gundy said. "I don't think there's any doubt about that."

Tobias Harris scored 22 of his 31 points in the second half, and the Pistons erased a 21-point deficit to beat New York on Saturday night.

Harris was one of the many Pistons who had little going to start the Pistons' second game in two nights, but they turned it around after halftime to spoil the Knicks' home opener and improve to 2-1 after going 37-45 last season.

"All throughout last year we weren't a good team on the road so it's been a big emphasis for us to be able to grind out games on the road, not give up and really just fight them out," Harris said, "and that's what we were able to do tonight."

Kristaps Porzingis scored 33 points, but New York fell to 0-2 after losing to former Knicks star Carmelo Anthony and Oklahoma City in its opener. He thought he was fouled when Drummond blocked his shot with the Pistons up three in the final minute.

"It's good that I am able to be aggressive on the floor and score for my team," Porzinigis said. "But a few of those plays at the end I got fouled."

Drummond had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Pistons, who lost 115-111 in Washington on Friday and seemed to have little energy left early Saturday.

But they were solid down the stretch, getting the tiebreaking three-point play from Reggie Jackson with 1:41 remaining. He closed it out with four free throws in the final eight seconds and finished with 16 points.

"We actually came to play," Jackson said of the difference in the second half. "We wanted it."

Enes Kanter had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Knicks, who played without rookie Frank Ntilikina, the No. 8 pick from France who sprained his left ankle in practice Friday.

New York led 57-36 on Kanter's three-point play, but Detroit cut it to 64-51 at halftime and had a quick start to the third quarter after Van Gundy started veteran Anthony Tolliver, who hadn't played in the first two games.

"I told the guys, defense was great but it's got to be great for 48 minutes. It can't just be for a half," Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said. "We'll get better at that."

Kyle O'Quinn scored 15 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. had 14 for the Knicks. Center Willy Hernangomez, an All-Rookie selection last season, didn't play.

    Grizzlies 111, Warriors 101

Golden State not only lost to Memphis, it lost its cool in the closing minute.

Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant both were ejected with 43 seconds left, a fitting end to a frustrating night for the Warriors in a loss to Memphis.

"My pockets will be a lot lighter for sure," Curry said about the ejection after thinking he was fouled and throwing his mouthpiece. Durant may draw additional penalties after it appeared he possible made an obscene gesture to the Memphis crowd.

Marc Gasol had 34 points and 14 rebounds, and the Grizzlies built a 19-point third-quarter lead over Golden State before holding on for the win.

James Ennis III added 13 points, and Tyreke Evans had 12 as Memphis shot 47 percent compared to 39 percent for Golden State. The Warriors shot 12 of 38 from 3-point range.

Curry led the Warriors with 37 points, and Durant added 29 and 13 rebounds.

Curry scored on a layup with 43 seconds left to cut the Memphis lead to 107-99—as close as the Warriors got to Memphis in the fourth quarter. But Curry thought he was fouled on the play and threw his mouthpiece along the baseline, leading to immediate ejection, the first in a regular season game in Curry's career.

"My frustration boiled over, did something stupid, deserved to get kicked out and that's what happened," Curry said.

But Curry denied trying to hit official Scott Wall with the throw.

"If I tried to throw it at him and hit him, I've got a pretty good aim," Curry said, adding he "would have been able to execute that."

Kerr noted that when Curry threw his mouthpiece "that's pretty much an automatic rejection. He was frustrated. We were all frustrated. It was a bad night all around."

When asked if he thought Curry would be suspended, Kerr tongue-in-cheek said it could be eight to 10 games.

"It was egregious,” Kerr said. “It was awful, it endangered people in the stands." Then he added: "You're asking the wrong guy. The league can figure that out."

With Curry headed out, Durant also was arguing and crew chief Brian Forte sent him to the locker room. As Durant was walking out along the sidelines, the Memphis fans taunted him and screen shots of the broadcast showed him with an extended finger, although some though it was an extended ring finger.

"That's part of the game. It's fun," Durant said of the crowd reaction. "They're heckling us, calling us names.. .It's nothing personal or nothing serious."

A major portion of the Warriors anemic shooting came in the third quarter when the Golden State made only 6 of 22 shots. That led to 15 straight Memphis points and a 19-point Grizzlies lead in the latter stages of the third. Memphis outscored the Warriors 32-20 in the frame, holding an 88-71 lead entering the fourth.

"If we get stops, obviously you can run a lot more," Gasol said referencing Memphis' desire to play with a faster pace this year. "It starts defensively. We have to get stops, and we have to be able to run and get them scrambling."

Memphis defeated Golden State twice last season, one of only two teams to hang two losses on the eventual NBA champions. San Antonio also defeated the Warriors twice.

    Magic 114, Cavaliers 93

Nikola Vucevic scored 23 points and Orlando snapped a 17-game losing streak against Cleveland, routing the defending Eastern Conference champions.

Orlando's first win over Cleveland since Nov. 23, 2012, came in convincing fashion. The Magic never trailed and built a 21-point lead late in the first quarter. Orlando led 36-18 after the first, hitting 14 of 24 from the field.

The Magic, who made 14 of 35 3-pointers, took their biggest lead, 106-69, midway through the fourth quarter when both teams cleared their benches.

LeBron James scored 14 points in the first quarter and finished with 22 as the Cavaliers lost for the first time in three games.

    Jazz 96, Thunder 87

Rudy Gobert had 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead Utah past Oklahoma City.

The Jazz never trailed after taking a 13-12 lead in the first quarter.

Oklahoma City's All-Star trio of Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony were bottled up in the first half by an active Utah defense. By the time George and Anthony got going, the come-from-behind climb was too steep. Anthony scored a game-high 26 and George added 22.

Westbrook was held to six points on 2-for-11 shooting. He was held to single digits just twice in the two previous regular seasons.

    Bucks 113, Trail Blazers 110

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 17 of his career-high 44 points in the fourth quarter, and he gave Milwaukee the lead for good on a breakaway dunk with 11 seconds left.

With Portland leading 110-109, the Trail Blazers lost the ball and Antetokounmpo's thunderous dunk put the Bucks ahead. After a timeout, Damian Lillard found Jusef Nurkic running down the lane, but Antetokounmpo blocked his shot at the basket, sending the 7-foot center crashing to the floor.

Khris Middleton was fouled and made both free throws to close the scoring.

Lillard scored 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter. CJ McCollum also had 26.

Antetokounmpo made 17 of 23 shots and had eight rebounds and four assists.

    Rockets 107, Mavericks 91

James Harden scored 29 points and Houston beat Dallas in its their home opener.

Playing without point guard Chris Paul, who is week-to-week with a left knee injury, Harden frequently bulldozed his way into the paint for layups while also keeping hot from beyond the arc. Harden made six of 13 3-pointers and added seven assists in 29 minutes.

Houston improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2014-15 season when it started 6-0. Dallas fell to 0-3 for the first time since the 2011-12 season, which followed their NBA title run in 2010-11.

Yogi Ferrell and J.J. Barea each had 19 points for Dallas.

    Heat 112, Pacers 108

Goran Dragic scored 23 points, Dion Waiters added 19 and Miami opened its home schedule with a victory over Indiana.

James Johnson scored 14 points and Kelly Olynyk added 13 for the Heat, who wasted nearly all of what was a 21-point lead before hanging on in the final moments. Josh Richardson added 12 for Miami.

Victor Oladipo scored 28 points for Indiana.

    Raptors 128, 76ers 94

DeMar DeRozan scored 30 points, Serge Ibaka had 21 and Toronto won its 10th straight home game over Philadelphia.

Kyle Lowry scored 17 points, Jakob Poeltl had a career-high 14 and the Raptors won for the 16th time in 17 meetings with the 76ers. The 34-point margin of victory was Toronto's biggest ever over Philadelphia, eclipsing a 32-point win on Nov. 9, 2014.

Ben Simmons had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the 76ers.

    Nuggets 96, Kings 79

Paul Millsap had 18 points and nine rebounds in his first home game with Denver, Gary Harris scored 17 points and the Nuggets used a strong defensive effort to beat Sacramento.

Kenneth Faried had 18 points and eight rebounds and Will Barton scored 15 points to help Denver win its home opener. Rookie De'Aaron Fox led the Kings with 18 points.
