TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A former NBA player convicted of running a real estate Ponzi scheme returns to court to find out his sentence.

Tate George, who played at the University of Connecticut, has been jailed in Monmouth County since his 2013 conviction on four counts of wire fraud. Each count carries a maximum 20-year sentence, but George is expected to face considerably less time.

Prosecutors contend he convinced investors, including current and former NBA players, to invest in his company but used the money to pay off earlier investors.

George spent two days in federal court in Trenton this month sparring with prosecutors over how much money his victims lost. The amount of money lost could determine the length of George's sentence.

This week's sentencing hearing, which begins Tuesday, is expected to go into Wednesday.
