HARTFORD (AP) — U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is planning to head to Thompson to call attention to potential cuts in President Donald Trump's budget.

The Connecticut Democrat said the budget would imperil federal aid to replace the Blain Road footbridge and preserve the Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor.

Blumenthal plans to discuss the proposal Monday at 1 p.m. Monday at the Army Corps of Engineers Maintenance building in Thompson.

Blumenthal said Trump's 2020 fiscal year budget request would cut funding for the Army Corps of Engineers and delay infrastructure projects under the Water Resources Development Act, which includes a study to replace the Blain Road footbridge.

Blumenthal said the budget would also eliminate funding for the National Heritage Program, which preserves and protects the Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor.
