Stonington — State police and environmental cleanup crews remain at the scene Tuesday night of an Interstate 95 south crash that saw a tractor-trailer peel off the right lane shoulder, turn over and catch fire Tuesday afternoon.

State police said Tuesday night that the operator of the tractor-trailer, who was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital with a minor rib injury, was found at fault and would be cited for failure to maintain lane.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no other injuries were reported, state police said.

The right lane of I-95 south was closed much of Tuesday as crews responded to the accident shortly after 2:45 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation. Crews cleared the scene shortly after midnight.

DOT officials said the incident happened about 1½ miles beyond Exit 92 at the Stonington-North Stonington line and caused traffic delays.
