Connecticut Lyric Opera presents ‘Madama Butterfly’
Connecticut Lyric Opera performs the iconic opera “Madama Butterfly” Sunday at the Garde Arts Center.
In the Puccini piece, a Japanese teen called Cio Cio San meets an American naval officer named Pinkerton, and they wed. But then he leaves her, setting off a series of dramatic events and decisions.
CLO will stage this show with full costumes and sets, a live orchestra, and English supertitles.
CLO is the only full-season professional opera company in Connecticut. The Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, which will provide the instrumental music for “Madama Butterfly,” has been a leading professional chamber orchestra in the state since 1997. Adrian Sylveen is the artistic director for both organizations.
“Madama Butterfly,” 3 p.m. Sunday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $29-$45; $20 for students with I.D.; (860) 444-7373, gardearts.org.
