Far more than just a ‘Dark Side’
Time sure passes when you’re power-chording your way through E, A, B, D and G – which rockers in these parts know to be the guitar blueprint for John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band’s mega hit “On the Dark Side.”
Musicians all over the world dream of that one lightning strike of a song that guarantees sonic immortality, and Caff & the boys — Rhody’s own — got it with that song from the “Eddie & the Cruisers” soundtrack.
Of course, over their 52-plus (!) year career, the Beaver Brown Band has churned out plenty of fine tunes including “C-I-T-Y,” “Tender Years,” “Wild Summer Nights,” “Victory Dance” and more. Cafferty’s solo song “Hearts on Fire” was in “Rocky IV,” and in that context he and/or the group have placed over 30 tunes in films over their career.
Hopefully, they’ll write a new song called “The Highway Rolls Forever” because JC&BBB show no signs of retirement. In fact, they stop by Westerly’s United Theatre Saturday for a performance. See these Rhode Island Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductees and marvel at the continued magic. Fellow Ocean State acts Caswell & The Peel N’ Eats and Yacht Rockers open the show.
John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, United Theatre, 5 Canal St., Westerly; $30, $40 and $45; unitedtheatre.org.
