Ivoryton Playhouse opens season with 'Star of Freedom'
Ivoryton Playhouse kicks off its 2022 season with a new show. This musical, titled “Star of Freedom,” is from Connecticut writers Jeff Blaney (music and lyrics) and Lawrence Thelen (book).
The show, which opens Thursday, finds two characters during Civil War-era America search for the meaning of home. Sean is an Irish immigrant, and Chloe is an African-American slave.
“At a time when America is struggling with its identity, it’s worth looking back to another difficult time in history that ultimately led to a stronger and more unified nation,” states the Ivoryton Playhouse press release.
“Star of Freedom” is based on Blaney’s concept album “Exodus.” The stage version is conceived and directed by Jacqueline Hubbard, who is Ivoryton Playhouse’s artistic director.
The playhouse is back at full capacity. Mask are recommended but not required. Patrons have to provide proof of vaccination or negative COVID test to get into the theater.
