    CIAC roundup: No. 3 East Lyme rolls in Class L volleyball opener

    East Lyme — Third-seeded East Lyme opened play in the CIAC Class L volleyball tournament with a 25-5, 25-15 and 25-20 over No. 30 Foran in the first round on Monday night.

    The Vikings (20-2), fresh off their win in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I tournament, will host No. 14 Brookfield, a 3-1 winner over No. 19 Rockville, in Wednesday's second round.

    Ella Freed and Simone Cappon had seven kills apiece for East Lyme while Savannah Soleau added six aces.

    In other matches:

    • Rita Sefransky had 24 assists to highlight No. 12 Fitch's 25-19, 25-15 and 25-21 win over No. 21 Lyman Hall in the Class L first round. Annalyn Cahill and Katie Tuohy combined for 22 kills for the Falcons (15-6), who will play at No. 5 North Haven in Wednesday's second round, while Madi Aldinger added six digs and three aces.

    • No. 26 Windsor beat No. 7 New London 25-23, 17-25, 25-23, 25-19 in the Class L first round. Nalyce Dudley had 10 kills, four digs and two blocks, Stacey Rivera had eight assists and five digs and Yarielis Ortiz had 14 digs for New London, which finishes 16-6. Also, Unique Ketter had five kills, Wennonah Amar had eight assists and Chrismaela Bouquet had two aces.

    • No. 11 Bacon Academy rolled to a 25-22, 25-20 and 25-8 victory over No. 22 Lauralton Hall in the Class M first round. The Bobcats (17-5) will play at No. 6 Prince Tech in Wednesday's second round. Kiera Stewart had three kills, 19 assists, and four aces for Bacon while Emma Mancuso had four kills and two blocks, Jen Whipple five kills and two blocks, Leah Brown seven kills and one block and Heather Marvin three kills.

    • No. 21 Waterford surprised No. 12 Wolcott 3-0 in the Class M first round. Game scores were 25-18, 25-18 and 25-16. The Lancers (11-11), who play at No. 5 Goodwin Tech in Wednesday's second round, were led by Kate Lange with 13 kills and seven digs, Izzi Fraser with 27 assists, two kills and two digs, Emerson Lane with eight kills and three digs and Erica Mugovero with six aces, four digs and one kill.

    • No. 13 Ledyard cruised to a 3-0 victory over No. 20 Nonnewaug in the Class M first round. Game scores were 25-22, 25-19 and 25-15. Aaliyah Amidon had 14 assists and two aces for the Colonels (16-7) while Lavinia Hutchins added 12 aces and four blocks and Bryleigh Johnson had 11 digs. Ledyard will visit No. 4 Kaynor Tech in Wednesday's second round at 6 p.m.

    • Kuranda Ruggiero had 19 assists, eight kills, eight aces and four digs as No. 12 Griswold defeated No. 21 Housatonic 25-6, 25-6 and 25-11 in the Class S first round. Abby Mathewson added six kills, three aces and one dig for the Wolverines (13-8), who visit No. 5 Whitney Tech in Wednesday's second round, while Makayla Neilson added six kills, two blocks and one dig and Sonja Matheson had five kills, three aces and six digs.

    • No. 19 East Catholic outlasted No. 14 Old Lyme 3-1 in the Class S first round. Game scores were 25-13, 25-16, 16-25 and 25-15. Abby Speckhals had 17 assists for the Wildcats, who finish 12-10, while Maddie Hubbard added 13 digs, Abby Sicuranza eight kills and Maddie Thompson seven aces.

    Girls' soccer

    • No. 17 Lyman Memorial advanced in Class S with a 6-1 win over No. 16 Innovation in the first round. Allyssa Judd, Kasey Cook, Leah Comeroski, Olivia Dunnack, Avery Volle and Becca Ziegler each scored a goal for the Bulldogs (10-7-1), who play at top-seeded Metro Learning in Wednesday's second round, while Magda Carpenter had to assists and goalies Morgan Tartaglia and Phoebe Carpenter combined for just one save.

    • No. 11 Watertown downed No. 22 Montville 9-2 in the Class M first round. Kate Bowman and Allie Kondash scored for Montville (8-10) and Kelsey Chiasson had an assist. Also, Emily Treat had seven saves and Katie Myjak added four saves.

    • No. 25 Wheeler, making its first state tournament appearance in six years, was eliminated by No. 8 Housatonic 3-1 in the first round. Senior Addie Hauptmann made 36 saves in goal for the Lions, who finish 6-9.
