Women’s club in Norwich seeking new members
The Women's City Club of Norwich is a women's organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. The non-profit charitable organization consists of women interested in civic, educational and cultural life in the community. Soup-a-thon Saturday in Stonington
A dine in or take out Soup-a-thon will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the United Church of Stonington, 67 Main St. Soups, chowders and chilis will be available, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. November events for adults at Groton library
Events next month at Groton Public Library geared toward adults include book groups, cinema classics and a baking demonstration.
Movies are planned at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. Call the Library at (860) 441-6750 for this month’s film titles.
Also, Elizabeth Berthasavage, of the King Arthur Baking School, will help you make and roll out pastry for a two crust apple pie Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 6:30 p.m., in a virtual session.
Virtual author talks are regularly livestreamed with Q&A. Events include “A Navajo Investigator’s Search for the Unexplained” Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m.; “On Childhood Migration from Central America” in Spanish Saturday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. (libraryc.org/grotonlibrary/59811) and in English Thursday, Nov. 14, at 4 p.m. (libraryc.org/grotonlibrary/60266), with bestselling author Javier Zamora.

Noank Baptist Church holiday bazaar
The Noank Baptist Church's 78th Annual Holiday Bazaar has all of the magic of a bygone era, mixed with the excitement of the upcoming holiday season. Kris Kringle, aka Lou Toscano, affectionately known as Mr. T, will be arriving in the morning to kick off the holiday season. The Noank Village will be holding the event on Nov. 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Silent auction closes at 2 p.m.
Norwich Ski Club swap event Nov. 9
The Norwich Ski Club will host a ski swap and equipment sale on Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Saint David’s Episcopal Church. New and gently used ski and snowboarding equipment and clothing for all ages will be available, with consignment items accepted from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Norwich Ski Club is a nonprofit organization offering day trips to ski resorts and includes about 600 members of various skill levels. Colchester Federated Church farmers market
The Colchester Federated Church will host a Farmers Market and Crafter's Vendor Faire on Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will showcase local crafters and artisans, and local authors JessieMay Kessler and Karen Warfield will be available for a book signing of their latest novels.
Bill Library Halloween trick-or-treaters
The Bill Memorial Library in the City of Groton invites Halloween trick-or-treaters to visit the library and pick up a treat bag and a free book on Oct. 31. Library hours are between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., and treat bags are available while supplies last. For more information, call 860-445-0392.
Leffingwell House Museum clock display
Thomas Harland returns to Leffingwell House Museum on Nov. 9 and 10 for an interactive presentation and clock display from the collection of Todd Keating. Harland will share the works and careers of his apprentices when they went out to seek their fame and fortunes at noon and 2 p.m. Space is limited, reservations are required on Eventbrite at $20 per person. Building block workshop at the COMO
The Stonington Community Center announces a family-friendly architectural building block workshop, "Let’s Build It! Community Building Block Workshop," in partnership with Historic Stonington and architect Stephen W. Schwartz. On Nov. 2, in the COMO Gym, teams of four will select a landmark, receive a reference photograph, and build their masterpiece, which will be placed on the map to form a 3D representation of the Borough. Jack Frost Bazaar Nov. 9 in Niantic
The annual Jack Frost Bazaar at Niantic Community Church will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at 170 Pennsylvania Ave., Niantic.
Now in its 77th year, the bazaar includes a luncheon and holiday shopping at the church’s two-level building (lift available for those with mobility issues) with rooms converted into a shoppers’ paradise. First stop for families with children is seeing Mrs. Santa and having a photo taken with her. The Kid’s Bonanza is another popular destination – a Silent Auction just for kids.
The main level of the church is loaded with Christmas decorations, jewelry, handbags, handmade items, sporting goods, books, pet items, an art gallery, as well as a silent auction room. Downstairs are baked goods and the Cookie Cottage.

NESS benefit Nov. 2 in Stonington
The New England Science & Sailing Foundation announces the organization’s Annual Benefit to be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Hounds, 769 Stonington Road in Stonington. Funds raised are used to provide necessary resources and scholarships to keep NESS inclusive and accessible.
This year’s event has a fundraising goal of $320,000. Tickets ($150) and a variety of sponsorship opportunities are available online at NESSF.org/AnnualBenefit.
Mitchell College Trunk-or-Treat

Football and politics with Groton Democrats
The City of Groton Democratic Committee is hosting a football and politics gathering to kick off the final week before the election on Nov. 5. The event is on Oct. 27, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Italian American Citizens Club. Park in the rear of the building and enter the room on the first floor.
Artisan Craft Show returns to Slater Museum
Slater Memorial Museum in Norwich is reviving a longstanding Norwich tradition for local residents who remember the annual Slater Artisan Craft Show. On Nov. 9, more than 50 artisans will be displaying their handcrafted wares in the Alumni Gymnasium on the Norwich Free Academy campus.

Niantic Communtiy Church anti-racism series
Niantic Community Church will host the second in a three-part anti-racism series on Nov. 2, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the East Lyme Public Library. Flanders Baptist holiday sale, lunch Nov. 9

Lawyer helping Afghanis speaks Oct. 27
German-born lawyer Janne Reisch will speak about her pro bono work with Afghani citizens who supported the American military during the Afghan war and who are now seeking asylum here. Her talk, “Conflicts, Commitments & Promises Made,” will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Christ Episcopal Church, 7 Elm St., Westerly.
Preston Public Library fall events
The Preston Public Library is hosting several fall events, starting with "Holiday Harvest: Celebrating the Holiday Table with Klassic Kreations" on Nov. 9, at noon. Additionally, on Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a Stop-in Craft event where attendees can create Thanksgiving turkeys. The Mystic Woman’s Club has initiated its 2024 Poinsettia Sale. Once again, all proceeds will benefit the Groton and Stonington Human Services Winter Heating Relief funds.

New London World Kindness Day
A fundraising concert will be held at the Hygienic Art Gallery in New London from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. Also, from 2 to 8 p.m. Nov. 13, downtown will celebrate World Kindness Day with a series of concerts. Local businesses like Fiddleheads, The Golden Owl, and The Social will participate in free giveaways. Live performances will include Sean O’Riely at The Garde and Soul Factory at The Social. Liberty Bank, Rotary free Thanksgiving dinner
Local families in need will receive free Thanksgiving dinners, from Liberty Bank and New London Rotary's 21st annual drive, overseen by Pam McNulty-Hennessey. Contributions from the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut and shoppers at local food markets will also support this initiative. Donations can be made via checks to the New London Rotary Foundation or the Community Foundation of Middlesex County, or online through the Community Foundation’s website, with the drive concluding on Nov. 18.
Retired Teachers Association event Nov. 19
The New London County Retired Teachers Association will hold a buffet lunch business meeting at Prime 82 on Nov. 19. The cost is $30, which includes lunch and the program. Registration starts at 11 a.m. with the business meeting from 11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by the buffet from noon to 1 p.m. The program, titled "A Funny Program about Funny Programs: The Greatest Sitcoms of All Time," will be hosted by award-winning author and pop culture historian Marty Gitlin. Fort Griswold chocolate event Nov. 16
The Friends of Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park are hosting Edward Dirgo and Robert Lecce from Pewter Pot Fine Spiced Chocolates on Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Monument House Museum. Registration is required due to limited seating. Attendees will have the chance to sample chocolate and hot cocoa, with chocolate bars and cocoa available for purchase afterward. November events at New London library
The History of New London Reading Group will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 4 and Nov. 18 at the Public Library of New London, with a virtual discussion on Frances Caulkins’ “History of New London.”
Other events at the library this month include “Larchmont Remembered” from 5-6 p.m. Nov. 5. Join Daniel Harrington for a talk on the true story of the sinking of the Larchmont in 1907 off the shores of Rhode Island.
On Nov. 9, from noon to 1:30 p.m., music educator Craig Harris will offer an ear-opening introduction to the eclectic sounds of Native America that include songs, stories, a film montage and guided music making.
“The Mohegan Tribe: Culture and History” runs from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Nov. 13, with tribal member David Eichelberg providing a hands-on presentation for Indigenous People’s month.
Also, “Paths to Autistic Empowerment” will run Nov. 18, 5-6:15 p.m., with Jeremy K. Farrell, autistic advocate, providing advice to parents.
