Gatch, natch
The range of quality regarding bands whose names are words they made up is pretty wide.
The folks in Hoobastank, for example, failed miserably. Jamiroquai isn’t easy to spell, so I hate it. Foghat is a great name.
Gatch is also great. A Boston post-millennial pop act out of Boston by way of Groton’s Fitch High School, Gatch’s sound goes all the way back to early Hall & Oates or Simply Red. He himself describes his music as “if James Taylor and James Brown had a baby and Dave Matthews was the obstretician.” Fair enough!
Oh, and Gatch is the nickname of singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Tyler Gaccione, a Best Vocalist nominee in this year’s prestigious Boston Music Awards — and that’s pretty cool. (Just not as cool as if some of his excellent “Party People” album or songs like “One-Two” were also nominated.)
Gatch brings his band home Saturday — including former Fitch classmate Aaron Lewis on drums — for a show at The Barn in Groton. They will not play any Hoobastank.
Gatch, 8 p.m. Saturday, The Barn, 13 Fort Hill Road, Groton; free; www.barnct.com, (203) 913-1567.
