Ancient Nordic gods and goddesses, explained!

    Kelsey A. Fuller-Shafer (Benjamin Shafer)

If you’re one of those folks whose knowledge of Norse mythology comes from a) superhero films, b) fantasy fiction or c) black metal bands, you’re probably intrigued. Maybe enthusiastically intrigued!

In that case, drop by Mystic’s Bank Square Books Tuesday when author Kelsey A. Fuller-Shafer discusses and signs copies of her book “Norse Mythology – the Gods, Goddesses and Heroes Handbook.”

Seems not at all scholarly and, in fact, a press release touts “comprehensive entries that outline each character’s names, roles, related symbols, and foundational myths, you can get to know the roots of these personas, and better understand the new stories we tell about them today.”

And be sure to ask Fuller-Shafer about the wolf Fenrir and serpent Jörmungandr and what they have to do with Loki and Angrboða because I’d like to know, myself.

    Kelsey A. Fuller-Shafer, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Bank Square Books, 53 W. Main St., Mystic; free; banksquarebooks.com, (860) 536-3795.
