Masterworks returns, masterfully
The esteemed Musical Masterworks chamber music series opens its 33rd season with concerts Saturday and Sunday in the superb environs of the First Congregational Church in Old Lyme.
Tessa Lark, the world-renowned classical violinist and Americana fiddler, returns for her sophomore campaign as Musical Masterworks’ creative director. Echoing the visionary choices of her first season, Lark has fashioned an intriguing program of short works for this weekend, and joining her onstage will be pianist Amy Yang, violinist Michelle Ross, violist Melissa Reardon and cellist Alice Yoo.
They’ll interpret Rameau’s La Joyeuse, Le Pappel des oiseaux and Les Cyclopes; Mozkowski’s Suite for Two Violins, Op. 71; Dvořák’s Silent Woods for Cello and Piano, Op. 68/5; Mozkowski’s Suite for Two Violins, Op. 71; Clara Schumann’s 3 Romances, Op. 11 (arr. for viola and piano); Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat major; and two of Lark’s own pieces, The Poet and The Gemini.
