Solo excellence on dispay
There are many fun acts at the circus, but some demand more behind-the-scenes respect than others. This thought occurred to me last week as I dangled from three-stories up on a trapeze.
Kidding. It occurred to me while pondering the program for the Music Matters program taking place Saturday in Stonington’s La Grua Center. It’s a solo violin concert — and there are few things so nakedly impressive in the realm of chamber music than a solo violist nuancing an inspired selection of works.
Look forward, then, to Saturday when the German-American violist Maren Rothfritz performs J. S. Bach’s Solo Viola Suite and Paul Hindemith’s Cello Suite No. 5 in c, BWV 1011.
Maren Rothfritz, Music Matter, 5 p.m. Saturday, La Grua Center, 32 Water St., Stonington; $20; lagrua.org.
