“Cracking the Shellfish Code: A talk and tasting,” the latest “Eating with the Ecosystem” event presented by the United Table series, takes place Feb. 17 in Westerly’s United Theatre.

The series celebrates and explores Rhode Island’s food culture and the people who work in it.

For this presentation, a panel of local experts and seafood advocates will talk about shellfish farming and harvesting in the context of the state’s coastal ecosystems and culinary traditions.

After the discussion, attendees will get to sample oysters and clams selected to showcase diverse tastes and textures. They’ll also learn proper techniques of shucking and opening bivalves.

Panelists are Al Lewis (Richmond Market), Nick Celico (Quonnie Fish Co,) and Jen Scappatura (Quonnie Siren Oysters).

Tickets for the 7 p.m. event are $20 and available at unitedtheatre.org. Seating is first come, first served. The United Theatre is located at 5 Canal St., Westerly.
