Gang of fun — er, One

Lenny Lashley’s Gang of One (submitted)

Can old punk stars maintain that snotty rage well into middle age? And if they do, are their children embarrassed at Parent Teachers Day when Pop shows up looking like someone exhumed Tommy Ramone?

On the other hand, never doubt the pure heart of a punk rocker! Because they learn that, sometimes, it’s OK to mature and musically evolve just like anyone else.

That’s why it might be fun to show up Friday in New London’s 33 Golden Street to see Boston’s Lenny Lashley. Old-timers recall Lashley as frontman for Darkbuster and as guitarist for Street Dogs — two outstanding Beantown punk acts.

In his “I’m older now” guise, he’s writing and performing some seriously impressive singer-songwriter-style acoustic tunes as Lenny Lashley’s Gang of One. THIS is how the punkist grows up.

Lenny Lashley’s Gang of One, 8:30 p.m. Friday, 33 Golden Street, 33 Golden St., New London; with My Druthers, James Maple and None of Us Saints; $10; (860) 443-1193.
