    Mötley Crüe plays Mohegan Sun

    Mötley Crüe (submitted)

The first time Mötley Crüe retired, Joe Biden was a frisky 30-year-old freshman senator from Delaware and Donald Trump was still a peach-cheeked roadie for Mott the Hoople.

The second time the Mën of Crüe called it quits, the “last” gig they played was the cast party after the episode of “ER” when Dr. Mark Green, played by Anthony Edwards, dies. It was really sad because everyone liked Dr. Green AND the band, after all, was calling it quits. Sensing the mood in the room, Mick, Nikki, Tommy and Vince offered up a lovely version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and, shedding a few tears, clambered aboard a rented firetruck loaded with porn stars and rode into the pink-crimson sun setting over the Santa Monica pier.

A few years later, I saw MC at Mohegan Sun Arena in 2013 — they’d just retired but sneaked out after curfew to make the gig — and I basically wrote in my review that, even then, their efforts to deny the ravages of time and stay somehow young and relevant were … what’s the word I’m looking for? How about “scabby”? Yep, that works.

    Well, now!

Here it is 11 years later and the Crüe — having kicked guitarist Mick Mars to the curb for the affront of actually cashing a Social Security check, and now utilizing the six-string skills of John 5 — return to the Sun Arena on their “That’s Not a Toad Croaking, That’s Just Vince Trying to Hit the Notes in ‘Saints of Los Angeles’’ Tour.” Don’t miss it. This could be the last time you’ll have a chance to see ’em!

Mötley Crüe, 8 p.m. Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $103 and up; mohegansun.com.
