Gleefully mean
Elsewhere in this guide is a Best Bet about Jerry Seinfeld playing Foxwoods Saturday.
This bet you’re reading now is about another comedian, Jim Jefferies, who’s appearing Saturday in Mohegan Sun.
If you were only able to see one of these two shows, which would it be? There really isn’t an incorrect answer; both men are supremely amusing.
However, the way the world is now? I’m going with Jeffries. He’s gleefully mean — and we all need a bit of AMUSING cruelty at this point.
For example: when he broaches the subject of millennials, all he does is crouch, as though to get up close and personal, and say with seething wonder, “You’re the worst people in history.”
To read that joke isn’t particularly funny, but his delivery is born of such aggrieved sincerity that most people who AREN’T millennials laugh — a lot.
Of course, most of Jefferies’ material IS wittily constructed, and his sense of pacing and topic development is masterful. Try to see this show and get the Scrooge out of your system before the holidays kick into full power and you have to pretend like you’re not bitter and angry.
Jim Jefferies, 8 p.m. Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $47 and up; mohegansun.com.
