The letter, "Plastic bags are still a bad idea," April 20, missed the boat on some important points. Either the author wasn't (or isn't) aware of information presented on TV news months ago, a time when going to cloth bags was being pushed.

On the news more than once there were reports about studies proving that cloth bags carried various bacteria, etc. These bags were tested with those results. I saw those stories. It was emphasized that cloth bags needed to be washed, constantly, so as not to spread those viruses or bacteria. They should not be used repeatedly without being laundered.

So, plastic bags are a much better, much safer choice.
