Soto turns back on his supporters

Sept. 20, 2016 is the day that Chris Soto told all the poor members of our community in New London that they should have no say where they live if they need any housing assistance. Chris Soto told everyone that the plan to build a new housing project based on non-transferable vouchers is a good project. Soto in all probability does not even understand what this project means to the people living on the edge of the economic cliff.

A non-transferable voucher stays with the housing unit (developer) and that effectively locks the family or individual into remaining in the projects for their whole life. There is no path out under the plan that Soto calls a good project.

Who are we to tell people where they must live? Who are we to advocate for programs of building housing projects that every study clearly shows as completely ineffective in lifting families and individuals up?

Soto has just delivered a huge blow to the very people that worked hard to support him in the primary in August. Soto is the same as Hewett, only worse.

People deserve a real chance and options to lift themselves out of poverty. Transferable vouchers for housing assistance provide that opportunity.
