Norwich City Council will consider an ordinance giving tax break to Gold Star families
Norwich — The City Council Tuesday delayed action on an ordinance to allow a property tax break to families who have lost a child or spouse “while performing active military duty with the armed forces.”
The council had to postpone a final vote after approving an amendment Tuesday that will require a second public hearing. The ordinance calls for Norwich residents who have lost a child or spouse in military action to apply for a tax break of 10 percent, up to $10,000, off the assessed value of property within the city.
The City Council will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at City Hall on the revised proposed ordinance.
