New London Democrats field new school board candidate
New London — The New London Democratic Town Committee has replaced one of its Board of Education candidates due to a conflict with her job.
Elizabeth Reyes is employed by the Thames Valley Council for Community Action, which administers federal funds for programming, prohibiting her from running for office under the 1939 Hatch Act, the DTC said in a statement Wednesday.
Elaine Maynard-Adams will take her place on the ballot. She previously served as a school board member from 1991 to 1999 and from 2007 to 2009.
“There is much work to be done to right the recent wrongs, and to restore trust in our school system. There is much work to be done to improve student achievement and continue to expand opportunities for all our students. I’m glad to be part of a strong team that can and will accomplish much,” Maynard-Adams said in a statement.
