Montville family displaced, one injured, after Tuesday morning fire
Montville ― A fire damaged a home on Connecticut Boulevard in Oakdale, displacing four members of one family Tuesday morning.
Oakdale Fire Department first responded to the 11:24 a.m. fire at 278 Connecticut Blvd., with Chesterfield Fire Company there soon after, Chief Keith Truex said.
Firefighters arrived to smoke flowing out of the rear of the single-family home with the fire in the basement. Truex said the fire was under control by 11:59 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Montville fire marshal’s office with assistance from the state fire marshal’s office.
One person who lived in the home was taken to the William W. Backus Hospital for treatment of burns to the hands and face and smoke inhalation. Fire Marshal Paul Barnes said the individual was later transferred to Bridgeport Hospital’s Burn Unit for further treatment. Barnes said the victim sustained the burns while trying to extinguish the fire.
The Red Cross is helping the family with emergency needs.
