The Manhattan Short Film Festival has this motto: “One world — one week — one festival.”

    That certainly sums it up.

This fest, now marking its 27th year, brings its compilation of movie shorts to more than 500 cities in six continents. One of those cities is New London, where this year’s films are shown at the Garde Arts Center on Sunday.

And folks don’t just screen the 10 entries. They also vote on their favorite.

Here is a sampling of this year’s titles.

In “Dovecote,” from Italy, a small boat navigates the canals of Venice, only to stop at a women’s prison where an inmate is poised to rediscover freedom.

“Mother,” from Ukraine, is set at the beginning of the war in that country. Katya decides to leave her hometown and take her mother … but her mother is getting her nails done.

“Alarms” from France: Pierre is diligently overseeing the completion of the tumultuous construction site under his responsibility, ensuring that progress doesn’t come at the cost of safety.

Manhattan Short Film Festival 2024, 3 p.m. Sunday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $15; (860) 444-7373, gardearts.org.
