Mountainfilm on Tour comes to the Garde
One film, “Above the Noise,” follows a woman who uses skydiving as a way to focus inward.
Another, “Ghost Resorts Japan,” focuses on abandoned ski resorts in Japan that now draw folks wanting an unconventional backcountry adventure.
And in “Ascend,” a group of young women from Afghanistan pursue their passion for climbing and mountaineering.
These are just a few of the documentary short offerings of Mountainfilm on Tour, which comes to the Garde Arts Center on Saturday.
Mountainfilm is one of the longest-running film fests in America, having started in 1979 in Telluride, Colorado. The tour version brings some of the fest’s movies to cities around the country. A presenter is on hand at the screenings to talk a bit about the films, filmmakers and subjects.
Mountainfilm on Tour, 7 p.m. Saturday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $22-$37; (860) 444-7373, gardearts.org.
