Debbie Gibson to perform at the Kate
If one of your most successful albums was titled “Electric Youth,” people will most likely spend the rest of your life asking, “How old are you now?”
So let’s answer that, Debbie Gibson. She is now 54.
The wunderkind who wrote, produced and sang the tunes on “Electric Youth” when she was just a teen is on a tour celebrating her musical history. It’s titled “Acoustic Youth: Songs and Stories from Electric Youth,” and she will bring the show to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook on Saturday.
With the single “Foolish Beat” from the album “Out of the Blue,” Gibson became the youngest artist — at age 16 — to write, produce and perform a #1 hit, and she still holds that record today.
Gibson has gone on to star on Broadway and reach into other areas of the performing arts, but her biggest legacy will always be those infectious 1980s pop tunes like “Shake Your Love,” “Out of the Blue” and “Lost in Your Eyes.”
Note that ticket availability was very limited when last checked, so look at the Kate’s website for up-to-date information.
