JD Vance responds to ‘childless cat lady’ backlash, claims women thanked him for remarks

Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance is trying to downplay recently resurfaced cat-astrophic comments that have come back to bite him — even claiming that women have thanked him for his remarks.

The Ohio senator came under fire earlier this week after video made the rounds from a 2021 Tucker Carlson interview during which he referred to Democrats who have not given birth as “childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives.”

On Friday, Vance attempted to soften the comments that have since caused vitriol among a viable voting body.

“Obviously it was a sarcastic comment,” he told Megyn Kelly on her Sirius XM radio show, joking that he’s “got nothing against cats.”

But from there, the bestselling “Hillbilly Eulogy” author only doubled down on his remarks.

“The simple point that I made is that having children, becoming a father, becoming a mother, I really do think it changes your perspective in a pretty profound way,” he said. “It’s not a criticism of people who don’t have children. … This is about criticizing the Democratic party for becoming anti-family and anti-child.”

He claimed that women from both sides of the aisle have thanked him for speaking out on today’s ideals that don’t prioritize having a family.

“I’ve heard from a lot of conservative women, and frankly, a lot of liberal women who said, ‘I’m actually glad that you pointed out there’s become something profoundly anti-family in our public policy, in our republic conversation,’” Vance told Kelly.

In his original remarks, Vance pointed to Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as examples of people who don’t have kids and “don’t really have a direct stake in” the country, yet are in control of it.
