High school roundup: East Lyme field hockey beats No. 9 North Branford

North Branford — Sophia Gibson scored twice and Gracie Lloyd had a goal and two assists as the East Lyme High School field hockey team defeated No. 9 North Branford 4-3 Saturday.Lily Gibson also had a goal and Mia Lloyd an assist for East Lyme (12-3).In other games:• Brooke Ouellette scored on a penalty stroke in overtime to give Westbrook/Old Lyme a 1-0 victory over Fitch. Esme Carlebach made 29 saves in goal for Fitch (10-5). Westbrook/Old Lyme is 11-4.• Misha Lewandowski and Charlotte Cornell each scored two goals to lift Stonington to a 5-1 defeat of Avon. Anna Lettiere added a goal and Shay Burnside two assists for the Bears (12-1-1), while goalie Hailey Allard earned the win.Boys' soccer• Matthew Shampine had two goals and an assist in Waterford's 3-1 victory over Stonington in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II play. Sal Alessio scored the first goal of the game in the ninth minute for Stonington (8-6-2, 2-3-1) but Waterford answered quickly and led 3-1 at the half. Ian Rush also had a goal and an assist for the Lancers (8-3-4, 2-2-2).• Windham edged Norwich Free Academy 1-0 in an ECC Division I game on a goal by Melkin Calchingo. Kaiden Walsh made three saves in goal for NFA (3-10-2, 2-5-1).• Callaway Scott and Ryan Wargo each had a goal and an assist for East Lyme in Friday night's 4-0 victory over Fitch in ECC Division I. Evan Mullarney and Luke Walsh also scored for East Lyme (13-0-2, 8-0) and Oliver Lopez and Christian Wren combined for four saves. Will Haugeto made 12 saves for Fitch (4-12-1, 1-7).Girls' soccer• Victoria Sturm recorded the shutout in goal and scored on a penalty kick for her first career goal as Waterford topped St. Bernard 6-0 in a game played as a benefit for the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation. Paige Jessuck had two goals for the Lancers (11-1-3), while Adyson Wiseman added a goal and two assists and Camryn Dickinson a goal and two assists. Madison Scribner made 18 saves for St. Bernard (3-9-3).• Grace Cosmopoulos scored and Jayda Haney-Salisbury made eight saves for Fitch in a 1-1 tie against Old Lyme. Kate Walsh scored for and Grace Osborne made six saves for Old Lyme (6-6-3). Fitch is 3-9-2.Volleyball• Maddie Nahass had 10 kills for Fitch in a five-game loss to Chariho. Game scores were 17-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25 -17, 16-14. Emma Main contributed 16 assists for the Falcons (9-10), CoCo Vicente had 10 digs and Leilani McCoy five blocks.• Allison Needham finished with 23 digs, seven kills, 12 service points and three aces for Wheeler in a 3-2 loss to Sheehan. Wheeler is 14-5.
