High school roundup: East Lyme boys' cross country takes the title at Manchester Invite

Manchester, N.H. — Sean McCauley finished in third place in 16 minutes, 12 seconds and the East Lyme High School boys' cross country team won the Large School Division on Saturday at the Manchester Invitational.Jilali Benjdid was seventh (16:22) for East Lyme, which finished with 76 points, while Sam Leone was 15th (16:46), Matt Carrier 26th (17:03) and Jack Faitsch 29th (17:10).East Lyme was 13th in the girls' Small School Division. Rachel Quadrato led the way in 23rd place (21:48), with Lauren Fulcher 45th in 22:32 and Maya D'Aquila 63rd in 23:02.In other meets:• The Fitch boys finished 14th at the Frank Kelley Invitational in Wrentham, Massachusetts. Julien Silva led the Falcons with a ninth-place finish (15:56) and teammate Evan Vitagliano was 25th (16:13). Fitch was 16h in the girls' race and Colbie Synhorst was its top finisher (22:40). Boys' soccer• Distefano Manrique scored for Norwich Free Academy in a 1-0 victory over Ledyard. Evan Casola had an assist and Kaiden Walsh made two saves for NFA (2-1-2). Paulo Templeton made three saves for Ledyard (2-2-2).• Boden Fagan scored on a penalty kick in the 15th minute for Waterford in a 1-1 tie with Woodstock Academy. Ben Dubicki had five saves for Waterford (3-2-3).• Justin Portillo scored three goals as Norwich Tech beat Wheeler 3-1 in a nonleague game. Norwich Tech (4-1-1) led 2-0 when Wyatt Hayes scored off a free kick for Wheeler (3-5). Mackenzie Payne had 12 assists and three aces and Savannah Malinowsky had four kills and three aces for the Wolves (6-3, 1-1).• Norwich Tech swept Goodwin Tech in a Connecticut Technical Conference match on Friday, winning 25-8, 25-15, 25-11. Olivia Luurtsema had 16 aces and four assists, Nyomi Barboza had six kills and Kristen Romanski had three kills and a block for the Warriors (5-2, 5-0).
