Local roundup: Lyman Memorial's Morello wins 400th career game as Bulldogs capture ECC

Lebanon — Lyman Memorial High School girls' soccer coach Mark Morello earned his 400th career victory Monday as the Bulldogs defeated Wheeler 6-0 to capture the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV title.Emily McKelvey and Avery Volle had two goals each for Lyman (10-2-1, 4-0-1), while Becca Ziegler and Bridey LaFleur each had one goal and two assists. Phoebe Carpenter made six saves in goal for the shutout.Mya Dessaules and Lillian White combined to make 18 saves for Wheeler (3-7-2, 3-2-1).In other games:• East Lyme won the ALS Cup in penalty kicks after the game against Waterford ended 1-1 after regulation. Jessica Knapp scored and Sam Rodes had 13 saves in goal for East Lyme (6-4-2, 2-1-2 ECC Division I). Adyson Wiseman scored and Victoria Sturm made 11 saves for Waterford (9-0-2, 3-0-2).• Emma Forde scored three times in Fitch's 4-0 win over Killingly/Tourtellotte. Grace Cosmopoulos added a goal, Hannah Richardson had an assist and Jayda Haney-Salisbury made five saves for the Falcons (3-7).• Audrey Palmer finished with two goals and an assist and Bacon Academy defeated Ledyard 4-1 in ECC Division II. Bacon is 8-2-2 overall, 4-1 in the division. Ledyard is 4-5-2, 2-3.• Kate Gardner scored the game's only goal for unbeaten Morgan in a 1-0 victory over Old Lyme in the Shoreline Conference. Olivia Kelly made 13 saves for Old Lyme (6-5-2, 5-3-2).H.S. boys' soccer• Matthew Allen scored in the first half and Waterford added three goals in the second half in a 4-0 victory over Fitch. Dennis Du, Jameson Smith and Matthew Shampine also scored for the Lancers, which got two assists Ethan Stelik. Justin Gray made four saves for the shutout. Waterford is 7-2-4. Fitch is 2-10-1.H.S. field hockey• Anna Lettiere, Marina Lewandowski, Misha Lewandowski and Bailey Simmons all had goals for Stonington in a 4-2 victory over Fitch in the ECC. Emily Obrey added an assist and Hailey Allard had eight saves for Stonington (8-1 overall, 7-0 ECC). CC Zimbleman scored twice and Esme Carlebach made 13 saves for Fitch (7-4, 5-4). Stonington, which led 2-1 at halftime, hosted the Play for the Cure game, with donations collected from the game going to Smilow Cancer Hospital in honor of longtime Bears supporter Fred Bogue.H.S. volleyball• Sophie Geer had 17 service points, including nine aces, as Griswold clinched the ECC Division II title with a 25-12, 25-8, 25-20 victory over Ledyard. Rebecca Marsh had seven kills, four digs and an ace for the Wolverines (11-2 overall, 5-0 Division II), Kierra Neilson had 12 kills, three blocks and four digs, Abby Matheson six kills, four digs and three aces and Bella Bruno 25 assists, eight digs, three aces and one kill. Ledyard is 4-9 overall, 2-3 in the division.• Abby Parulis had 11 kills and 20 digs for East Lyme in a 25-20, 25-17, 25-22 victory over Newtown. Finnley Wilson added 12 kills and 16 digs and Jordyn Skinner 17 digs for the Vikings (10-4).• Hannah Wright had seven service points, including two aces, in Wheeler's 3-0 victory over New London in ECC Division IV. Addison Stanley finished with nine kills for the Lions (11-3, 5-0), Jada Overmoyer eight kills, Elsa Kalwara 20 assists and Abby Butremovic 23 digs. Myrna Pratts had 16 digs and Raelyn Lopez 14 digs for New London (1-12, 0-5).• Montville senior libero Alyna Ovalles had 16 digs to lead the Wolves past Lyman Memorial 25-16, 22-25, 26-24, 25-15 in an ECC Division III matchup. Kayla Terni had 29 assists and Zoe Molnar added nine kills for Montville (9-6, 3-2).• Kaylyn Vernon had 15 assists and 16 service points for Old Lyme, which came from behind for a 16-25, 14-25, 25-16, 26-24, 15-12 win over Cromwell in the Shoreline Conference. Maya LeQuire had 11 kills and 15 digs for Old Lyme (4-10, 4-10) and Molly Boardman had 14 digs.• Jennie Macca-Barnes finished with 20 kills and 20 digs in Waterford's 25-15, 25-22, 20-25, 25-15 loss to Woodstock Academy in ECC Division I. Ava Majeski added 15 digs for Waterford (10-4, 2-3) and Lucy Walker two blocks, seven digs, five kills and three aces.Women's soccer• Johnson & Wales defeated Conn College 1-0, getting the game's only goal on a header by Grace Sheehan just under 14 minutes into the second half. Ella Kahrl had five saves for Conn (4-6).Golf• The Great Neck Country Club Men's Invitational will tee off with shotgun start at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, in Waterford. Entry fee of $95 includes greens fee, prizes and lunch. You may enter as a foursome, threesome, twosome or individually. Blue tees only for the tournament.
