Local roundup: Ledyard girls' track team caps a successful weekend at CGA Bear Invite.

New London — One day after the Ledyard High School girls' track team captured the 4x800-meter relay for small schools at the Yale Classic in New Haven, the Colonels were back to work on Saturday at the CGA Bear Invitational at Coast Guard. The Colonels captured the 4x200 relay with Trinity Cason, Savannah King, Nicole Opalenik and Terri Foster (1:59.56) and took the 4x400 with Fionna Woody, Mackenzie Boyer, Kaitlyn Sweeney and Kate Littler (4:41.97) at the CGA event. Sweeney took the 600 (1:48.19), Kate Littler the 1,000 (3:14.92) and Maggie Littler the 3,200 (12:32.54), while Opalenik won the 55 hurdles (10.34) and Gabrielle Rader the shot put (31-5). It was the team of Kate and Maggie Littler, Sweeney and Josie Withbroe which won Friday's championship event in 10:26.82. There were two sessions Saturday at Coast Guard, with Norwich Free Academy, East Lyme, Ledyard, Wheeler and Daniel Hand competing in the evening. East Lyme's Emma Stoddard was a double winner in girls' events, taking the 55 hurdles (7.62 seconds) and the 300 (44.30). Other local girls' winners were East Lyme's Ava Pomerenke in the high jump (4-8) and Acadia Evans in the long jump (15-1) and NFA's Elya Anor in the pole vault (9-6). Local boys' winners were East Lyme's Callaway Scott in the 55 dash (6.74) and Declan Bee in the high jump (6-2), Ledyard's Roan Fothergill in the 300 (37.97), Greyson Stephenson in the 1,000 (2:54.41) and Myles Streckfuss in the shot put (44-4.25), Wheeler's Trevor Scarchilli in the 600 (1:29.84) and NFA's Owen Muench in the 1,600 (4:49.95). H.S. boys' basketball • Fitch overcame a 26-point deficit and beat Crosby 80-74 in overtime on Saturday night. The Falcons made 11 3-pointers in the second half and overtime. Malakhi Sabb had 24 points, five 3-pointers and 10 rebounds, Si'Kis Reels scored 21 with six 3-pointers and Xavier Goode had 20 points and 12 assists for the Falcons (7-1). H.S. hockey • The Eastern Connecticut Eagles beat Watertown/Pomperaug 3-1 on Saturday night. Wade Larson (East Lyme), Sam Cunningham (St. Bernard), and Nick Rembish (St. Bernard) scored goals, Will Sluggett (St. Bernard), Gavin Bessenaire (Killingly) and Gherig Bartiss (Bacon) had assists and Tyler Fields (NFA) got the win in net for the Eagles (4-3). Women's hockey • Caitlin Pierce scored with 1:19 left in overtime and Connecticut College stunned No. 1 and previously unbeaten Middlebury 2-1 Saturday at Dayton Arena. Pierce and Claire Sammons each had a goal and assist, Devon Galizio had 36 saves and Sammons led the way with nine faceoff wins for Conn (4-7 overall, 1-5 NESCAC). Middlebury is 11-1, 5-1. Sammons tied the game 1-1 at the 6:07 mark in the third period, forcing overtime. Women's basketball • Coast Guard lost to Maine Maritime 68-57. Dorothy Stotts had 14 points, five assists and three steals, Kelly Hagerty had 12 points and seven rebounds and Julia Mann scored 11 points with six rebounds for the Bears (11-3). • Unbeaten Bowdoin, ranked fourth in the nation in Division III, defeated Conn College 65-48 Saturday. Valeria Santiago Dedos led Conn in scoring for the second game in a row, finishing with a season-high 14 points. Catie Donadio added 13 points and Catie Hurley had 11 points and six rebounds for the Camels (9-6 overall, 0-2 NESCAC). Bowdoin is 13-0, 2-0. • Mitchell College freshman N'Tai Teague recorded her second collegiate double-double Saturday with 18 points and 15 rebounds, both career highs, in the Mariners' 90-58 loss to Johnson & Wales in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. Teague added five blocks, one assist and one steal for the Mariners (2-6, 0-2), while Jade Hypolite had 16 points, four assists and three rebounds and New London's Jamya Beddoe had nine points. Men's basketball • Dylan Watson had 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks Saturday as Conn College picked up its first NESCAC win of the season, beating Bowdoin 72-68. Elias Espinosa chipped in 16 points for Conn, which trailed by as many as 13 points, while Garrett Clar finished with 14 points, five boards, five steals and four assists and Andrew Hartel had a double-double of 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. The Camels (9-7 overall, 1-1 in the league) trailed 32-19 with 4:56 to play in the first half before rallying with a 16-2 run to lead 35-34 at the half. • Eddie Volkerts had 22 points and 13 rebounds Saturday as Mitchell College picked up its first GNAC victory of the season, beating Johnson & Wales 71-69. Volkerts was 6-for-13 shooting and 9-for-16 from the foul line, including clutch free throws in the final 30 seconds help seal the win. Jaylyn Clardy and Brandon Lee added 15 points apiece for Mitchell (9-4, 1-1), which forced 16 turnovers. • Coast Guard beat Clark 77-75 in a NEWMAC game on Saturday. Declan Rooney had 23 points and six assists and Luke Farrell scored 21 for the Bears (6-6, 2-1). College wrestling • No. 14 Coast Guard swept a quad-match at Ursinus on Saturday, beating No. 15 Oneonta 55-0, Delaware Valley 41-4 and the hosts 34-9. Nikko Beaton (125 pounds), Chase Randall (133), Nathan Fitt (149), Jacob Woodburn (157), Gabe Monroe (184) and Carl DiGiorgio (285) each went 3-0 for the Bears. Men's swimming • Conn College beat Bowdoin 199-81, winning all 16 events. Justin Finkel, Carrick Shea, Jack Mattison-Gulotta, Matthew Morris, Evan Lyons, Aiden Miller and diver Cam Bizjak won two events each for the Camels. Women's swimming • Conn College fell to Bowdoin College 159-134. The Camels—who swept both relays and posted five individual wins on the day—outscored the Polar Bears 134-127 in the 14 swimming events. However, without a Conn diver in the field, Bowdoin made up the difference by earning 32 total points. Campbell Baumgartner led the Camels with a pair of solo wins and another in the 400 medley relay. She was the first of four Conn swimmers to the wall in the 100 breast (1:05.9), and in the 200 breast (2:27.86) she won by more than two seconds.
