High school roundup: Gannotti wins 100th match of his career as Waterford wrestling goes 3-1

Branford — Lucas Gannotti (152 pounds) earned the 100th win of his career and went 4-0 on Saturday as the Waterford High School wrestling team finished 3-1 at the Branford Duals. Luke Weskott (120), Robert Sommers (138) and Braeden Sollima (215) won multiple matches for the Lancers (13-4). Waterford beat North Haven 45-31, Wilton 44-36, Branford 48-32 and lost to Foran 64-9. In other wrestling meets: • Ryan Taggart (165 pounds) won the 100th match of his career as Ledyard went 5-1 at the Enfield Duals and finished second. Lukas Boxley (120), Josiah Estriplet (138) and Logan Storz (150) were among the multiple match winners for Ledyard. • East Lyme/Norwich Tech finished seventh among 16 teams at the Colter Abey mid-season winter classic at Xavier with 241 points. East Lyme had three champions: Brayden Soleau (190), Lincoln Carlson (215) and Jonathan Harms (285), while Anthony Caisse (150) was second. • Fitch lost 66-18 to Notre Dame of West Haven and 48-15 to St. Joseph. Lance Stewart (144) won twice for the Falcons. • Griswold (160 points) finished fifth at the Griswold Invitational. Griswold's Seth Christie won the 126-pound division, while Max Gray was third at 157. Bacon Academy's Lucian Dean was third at 175 as the Bobcats finished 15th overall. Track & field • Norwich Free Academy's Chris Amy won the boys' shot put title in the championship flight at the prestigious East Coast Invitational at Providence Career & Technical Academy, finishing with a toss of 63 feet, 1 inch. East Lyme's Tommy Matlock took second in the event at 63-0. The two, who were first and second in New England last season, with Matlock taking the crown, are scheduled to meet again at the Eastern Connecticut Conference championship on Feb. 8. Also at the meet, Old Lyme's Patrick Lynch was first in the boys' long jump at 23-2.5, NFA's Joal Barros won the boys' high jump with a leap of 6-4 and NFA teammate Patrick Croughwell won the boys' two-mile title in 9:36.57, with Griswold's Tycen LaBelle second in the two-mile in 9:41.56. The East Lyme boys' 4x800 relay team was first in 8:16.24 with Jilali Benjdid, Jack Jensen, Sean McCauley and Sam Leone. Old Lyme's Chase Gilbert took the girls' mile run in 4:55.88 and Lyman Memorial's Hazel DeLucia was second in 5:16.06. Montville's girls' shuttle hurdle team of Kamryn Plikus, Evelyn Granskog, Isabel Northrop and Katherine Myjak was first in 39.60. Boys' basketball • Si'kis Reels scored 27 points (on five 3-pointers) and Fitch defeated Kolbe Cathedral 76-57. Malakhi Sabb scored 16 points and Xavier Goode had 11 for the Falcons (9-2). • Foran defeated Wheeler 66-38 in a rematch of last season's CIAC Division IV quarterfinals. Nate Mayne led the Lions (4-7) with nine points. • Elijah Cornell scored 20 points and had eight rebounds as Stonington beat Windham Tech 58-57. Alex Nowak had 11 points and nine rebounds and Sean Durham scored 13 for the Bears (4-6). Brady Marsh led Windham Tech with 20 points. • Brayden Marquis scored 20 points to lead Plainfield to a 52-48 win over Lyman Memorial in an ECC Division IV game on Friday night. Kevin Botticello had 20 points and Ethan Apicelli scored 10 for Lyman (1-7, 0-2). Girls' basketball • Ada Ellis scored 17 points and Fitch earned a 52-33 win over Amistad at the Pomperaug MLK Tournament. Synaa Waters had 12 points and Katherine Wenger scored 10 for Fitch (6-5). • Jenny Lopez had 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals, playing only the first half, as Lyman Memorial defeated Tourtellotte 48-24 Friday night in ECC Division IV. Ayanna Dillman added 13 points, 11 rebounds, seven steals and three blocked shots for the Bulldogs (3-5, 2-1), Phoebe Carpenter had 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocks and Juliana Haynes five rebounds and six steals. Lyman led 30-11 at halftime.
